Angklung & Kulintang Ensemble
Angklung & Kulintang Ensemble
About
The aim of the Angklung and Kulintang Ensemble is to promote music appreciation through the playing of two Traditional Malay instruments — the Angklung and Kulintang — which originate from Southeast Asia.
During CCA sessions, members learn the technical skills of playing the Angklung or Kulintang, and acquire a theoretical foundation in music. Though these training sessions, we also cultivate discipline and patience among our members, allowing them to become skilful in playing music.
Covid-19 presents unprecedented challenges in the way we learn and carry out our CCA training sessions. We learnt to adapt to a new way to carry out our CCA so that the members still have the opportunity to hone their musical skills. Although it is challenging to conduct our CCA sessions via Zoom, the students persevered and even learned new songs during these Zoom sessions. Their hard work finally culminated in a moving performance for the Singapore Youth Festival 2021. They were awarded with the Certificate of accomplishment.
Through these challenging times, the Ensemble is confident that the students’ perseverance and their adaptability to change will make them emerge stronger and united as a team.

SHIVANESWARY D/O SARAVANAN (3-Respect, 2021)
‘I have learnt that we have to work together with my peers in order to achieve something. When I first joined the ensemble I didn't have any friends. However as days go, I managed to get along with CCA mates and juniors and now we have made unforgettable memories.’
DAMIEN OOH LIWEI (1-Discipline, 2021)
‘Being in Angklung has developed me into a resilient person. The first year has been a fruitful year where I play an instrument that I have never tried before and interact with my peers and seniors. The songs that we play are relaxing and enjoyable for me and it makes me want to come for the CCA.’
NG SI YUN (2-Empathy, 2021)
‘Ever since joining the Angklung & Kulintang Ensemble, I really learnt so much from it. I literally had no whatsoever experience in playing instruments and so I was kind of nervous when I first joined it. However, now that I have spent 1 and a half years in it, I feel a sense of home and comfort with all of my friends getting together to learn how to read chords and how to play music pieces as one. Though I may have struggled at first, I wouldn't be here without my supportive friends and CCA teachers. Joining this CCA has really been a eye-opening experience and I cannot wait for what the future brings us!’
