Drumatix Batucada

About

Drumatix Batucada is a sub-style of samba and refers to an African-influenced Brazilian percussive style, usually performed by an ensemble. The music is characterised by its repetitive style and fast pace. Many times, we have wowed crowds with our synergy and vibrancy. Members have learnt to collaborate and display great team spirit and adaptability during the various public performances. In addition, members learn discipline and perseverance through their CCA and our leaders are groomed to lead and serve the school and community.

In 2021, our first performance was for Speech Day in April. The rousing performance was well received by all. It helped to hone the leadership qualities of the office bearers and build camaraderie between the members.

During their e-CCA sessions, members from Sec 1 to 3 produced a virtual video for the Teachers’ Day e-Concert in Term 3. They paid a loving tribute to their teachers.

In spite of the challenges brought on by COVID, the energy and passion of Drumatix Batucada has never wavered. Our students and teachers all look forward to the future with enthusiasm!

Our Batucada members’ recent participation in a school-wide (2024 JVS National Day Celebrations) and public performance (Buona Vista Heartland Celebrations) has been instrumental in honing the members' stage presence and boosting their confidence.

These events not only showcase their passion and commitment to music-making but also mark a significant milestone in 2024, a year that has become even more memorable as it represents a resurgence of performance opportunities following the challenges of the COVID period.

The energy and enthusiasm displayed by the band during these performances reflect their dedication and the joy of reconnecting with their audience, making each event a pivotal moment in their musical journey.

Being a leader of drumatix batucada, these 3 years have a lot of memories. make me learn a lot of things like how to conduct a lesson without teachers, how to let the team have more confidence in performing. I really enjoyed the cca and all the people I know in the CCA. We are very pleased to be members of the batucada family where we all laugh and enjoy the beauty of batucada. Always remember we hit the beat till you move your feet!

Batucada has a unique charm that first drew me in when I joined a batucada CCA in 2018 as a Primary 3 student. What started as curiosity quickly turned into a deep emotional connection, never wanted to leave and so continued it for 6 years. Over the years, I’ve grown immensely, thanks to the encouragement and kindness of my seniors and friends. They not only inspired me to take on a leadership role but also helped me discover my passion for playing the timbal, which deepened my love for music. My instructor’s support has been invaluable in my journey. Now, I’m eager to give back to my juniors and friends, just as my seniors did for me. I want to create a welcoming space where everyone feels supported and inspired.

When I first joined this CCA i thought that I wasn’t fit for it as i did not have any music background. But as I attend the CCA lessons, I manage to play the certain instruments that was assign to me. To be honest it took me quite long to get used to it as i did not have any experience with music in my previous years. But now with the help of my friends and instructor, I can play my instrument well. For the past 3 years, I found myself enjoying this CCA and I may continue to impart this joy and passion to my juniors.
